The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Georgia Bulldogs face off on Saturday in Nashville in a SEC college football matchup.
The Vanderbilt Commodores look for their first win of the season after losing their opener at home to Western Kentucky. Vandy QB Johnny McCrary completed just 52.9 percent of his passes for 217 yards and a touchdown and threw two interceptions in the loss but he was effective running gaining 66 yards on eight carries. Ralph Webb is the Commodores top option at running back and he gained 70 yards in the opener and Trent Sherfield was Vandy’s top receiver with four catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. The Vanderbilt defense played well in the loss allowing just 14 points and 246 yards. Vandy’s top tacklers in week one were Torren McGaster, Darreon Herring, and Andrew Williamson each had six tackles. Vandy will need a huge effort this week as they start SEC conference play.

The Georgia Bulldogs made it look easy in week one as they stomped ULM in Athens. UGA QB Grayson Lambert threw just 12 times competing eight of them for 141 yards and two touchdowns. THe Georgia backfield lived up to expectations as Nick Chubb ran for 122 yards and two touchdowns and Keith Marshall ran for 73 and two scores. Malcolm Mitchell and Terry Goodwin led the Dawgs in receiving with three catches each. The Georgia defense allowed 251 yards including just 45 yards on the ground while getting three sacks. Quincy Mauger and Leonard Floyd each had eight tackles to lead Georgia and Jordan Jenkins had seven tackles. Georgia has their sites set on the SEC East title and beyond.
Vanderbilt is 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 SEC games, 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games, and 0-5 in their last five home games against a team with a winning road record. Georgia is 4-0 against the spread in their last four road games, 9-4 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 5-11-1 against the spread following a win. The home team has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
This is a big number for a road game in the SEC but I don’t see the Vandy offense being good enough to keep it close so my pick is Georgia.
