The Eastern Michigan Eagles will travel to War Memorial Stadium to take on the Wyoming Cowboys this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.
The Eastern Michigan Eagles (0-1, 0-0 MAC) were able to get out to an early lead but wasn’t able to stop the rushing attack of the Old Dominion Monarchs and dropped their season opener by a 38-34 margin. Leading the way for the Eagles was QB Reginald Bell (12-18, 121 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT) and RB Darius Jackson (19 car, 117 yds, 2 TD). Eastern Michigan was up 24-10 early in the 3rd quarter but was able to contain Ray Laway of Old Dominion who took over in the 2nd half and finished the game with 28 carries, 223 rushing yards, and 4 TD. Eastern Michigan outgained the Dominion by a 444-413 margin, however lost the turnover battle by a 3-0 margin. Leading the way for the Eastern Michigan defense was LB Anthony Zappone (11 tackles) and LB Derric Williams (6 TFL, 1 sack). Eastern Michigan has to be happy with how they looked in their opener as this is a team has just 6 wins over the past three seasons, however, they will need to find answers when it comes to the turnover battle as they were last in the MAC in turnover margin in 2014 and the three turnovers likely cost them the game.

The Wyoming Cowboys (0-1, 0-0) got off to a difficult start to the season as they were upset at home by FCS North Dakota 24-13. North Dakota was able to take a 14-0 lead into halftime and was able to hold on behind RB john Santiago’s 148 yards and 2 TD’s. Leading the way for the Cowboys was QB Cameron Coffman (19-37, 270 yds, 2 TD) and WR Tanner Gentry (9 rec, 176 yds, 1 TD). Wyoming was outgained by North Dakota by a 429-330 margin. North Dakota dominated the ground game by outrushing the Cowboys by a 276-29 margin. Wyoming only returned 9 total starters from last year’s 4-8 squad and it looks as if it could be another building year under 2nd year head coach Craig Bohl. Wyoming will need to get more production out of the RB’s Shaun Wick and Brian Hill as the Cowboys backfield was supposed to be one of their strong points this season. The Cowboys defense will need to make some quick adjustments on the defense end, especially the run defense after getting torched by North Dakota.
The Eagles are 16-37 ATS in their last 53 non-conference games and 9-21 ATS in their last 30 games overall. The Cowboys are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a double-digit loss at home and 16-34-1 ATS in their last 51 home games.
It’s hard to back a team that lost to a FCS team predicted to finished 10th in the Big Sky conference, however, I think Craig Bohl is too good of a head coach not to have his team well prepared for an Eastern Michigan team that I think will struggled to score on the road. The Eagles have a strong LB core, but are generally weak at the other major positions and I think Wyoming and Shaun Wick will get out to an early lead in this one and cover this spread.
