TV: Pac-12 Network

The Arizona State Sun Devils and the New Mexico Lobos face off on Friday in college football action.

The Arizona State Sun Devils are off to a 1-1 start to the season after following up a season opening loss to Texas A&M with a win over Cal Poly. The ASU offense is averaging 26 points and 411 yards per game but they had trouble protecting the QB in the opener. Arizona State QB Mike Bercovici has completed 63.2 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and an interception as he is now the ful time starter after seeing some action last year. The Sun Devils’ rushing attack is led by Demario Richard who has gained 194 yards and scored two touchdowns and D.J. Foster is ASU’s leading receiver with 12 catches. The ASU defense is allowing 29.5 points and 377.5 yards per game with five sacks, a fumble recovery and two interceptions. Christian Sam has been Arizona State’s leading tackler with 23 tackles including three sacks, Jordan Simone with 19 tackles, and Lalu Moeakiola and Salamo Fiso with 18 tackles each. Arizona State clearly has some things they will need to work on before they hit Pac-12 play.

Arizona State vs. New Mexico - 9/18/15 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The New Mexico Lobos are 1-1 this season after beating Mississippi Valley State in their opener before losing to Tulsa last week. The New Mexico offense is averaging 43.5 points and 450.5 yards per game but the stats are skewed because of the 66-0 win over MVSU. Lobos QB Lamar Jordan has completed 71.4 percent of his passes with one touchdown and one interception while rushing for 97 yards as UNM are clearly a run first team. New Mexico has had 14 players rush the football with Daryl Chestnut rushing for 1-3 yards and two touchdowns and Jhurell Pressley carrying the load with 21 carries while Dameon Gamblin has been the best receiver with 11 catches. The New Mexico defense is allowing 20 points and 337 yards per game with eight sacks, three fumble recoveries, and an interception. New Mexico’s leading tacklers are Dakota Cox and Kimmie Carson with 15 tackles each and Maurice Daniels has 11 tackles. This is a big step up for Bob Davie’s Lobos but they have as solid pass rush which could be a problem for ASU.

Arizona State is 2-7 against the spread in their last nine non-conference games, 0-4 against the spread in their last four September games, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four games. New Mexico is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games following a loss, 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games, and 8-18 against the spread in their last 26 non-conference games.

The total looks to be on the high side so for my free pick I will take the under which is currently at 64.5.
