The Line: Alabama Crimson Tide -6.5 -- Over/Under: 49 See the Latest Odds
The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Ole Miss Rebels face off on Saturday Night in Tuscaloosa in a battle of top tier SEC teams.
The Alabama Crimson Tide are off to a 2-0 start to the season after pouring it on in the second half against Wisconsin and putting forth a workman-like effort against Middle Tennessee State. The Alabama offense is averaging 36 points and 517 yards per game but they face their toughest defensive test this week. Alabama QB Jake Coker has completed 63.8 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and an interception but there are still question marks surrounding him. The Crimson Tide ground attack is paced by Derrick Henry who is averaging 7.8 yards per carry with six touchdowns and ArDarius Stewart is their top receiver with 10 catches and Robert Foster has eight catches. Kenyan Drake is doing it both ways on the Alabama offense averaging 7.3 yards per carry as well as having seven catches. The Alabama defense is allowing 13.5 points and 271.5 yards per game including just 63 yards on the ground with three sacks, three fumble recoveries, and two interceptions. Reggie Ragland is Alabama’s top tackler with 16, Eddie Jackson has 8.5 and an interception, and Jonathan Allen has two sacks. While Alabama has shown to be tough there should be more questions answered this week.

The Ole Miss Rebels have been impressive in their first two games but it has been against questionable competition. The Mississippi offense is averaging a whopping 74.5 points and 635 yards per game but neither Tennessee-Martin nor Fresno State posses a defense anywhere near that what they will see against Alabama. Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly has completed 72.5 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and an interception and he has also run for two touchdowns. Ole Miss has a lot of options in the backfield with Jaylen Walton averaging 11.4 yards per carry with two touchdowns and Eugene Brazeley averaging 10.2 yards per carry with two touchdowns while LaQuon Treadwell leads the Rebels receivers with nine catches and Quincy Adeboyejo has four receiving touchdowns. The Ole Miss defense has allowed 12 points and 303 yards per game with two sacks, a fumble recovery and four interceptions. Breeland Speaks in Mississippi’s top tackler with 11 tackles, Channing Ward has 10, and Tony Bridges has nine. While Ole Miss hasn’t played impressive competition they have been impressive against who has been put in front of them to play.
Alabama is 6-13-1 against the spread in their last 20 games, 1-3-1 against the spread in their last five home games against a team with a winning road record. Ole Miss is 5-2-1 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, 4-0-1 against the spread in their last five September games, and 2-6 against the spread on the road against a team with a winning homer record. Ole Miss is 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games against Alabama.
WIth the total set at 49 I see this one being all about the defense so my free pick is going to be under 49.
