The Arkansas Razorbacks and the Texas Tech Red Raiders face off on Saturday in Fayetteville in college football action.
The Arkansas Razorbacks are coming off of a stinging loss to Toledo that was one of the bigger upsets of week two of college football action. Arkansas appeared to be a program on the way back after last year’s strong finish and it remains to be seen how far back the loss sets them. The Arkansas offense is averaging 30 points and 502.5 yards per game but they couldn’t score more than 12 points against Toledo. Arkansas QB Brandon Allen has completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 720 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. The Razorbacks rushing attack is anchored by Alex Collins who is averaging 5.7 yards per carry and he has scored two touchdowns while Keon Hatcher is the Hogs leading receiver with 13 catches with two touchdowns and tight end Hunter Henry has 10. The Arkansas defense is allowing 14.5 points and 261.5 yards per game but they have just one sack, one interception, and two fumble recoveries. Arkansas’ leading tacklers are Jeremiah Ledbetter, Josh Williams, and Brooks Ellis who all have 14 tackles each. Arkansas will need to play inspired football the rest of the way if they hope to come close to accomplishing their goals for this season.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are off to a 2-0 start after demolishing their first two opponents Sam Houston State and UTEP. The Texas Tech offense is already racking up the totals averaging 64 points and 642.5 yards per game. Red Raiders QB Patrick Mahomes has completed 59.3 percent of his passes for 786 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception. The Texas Tech rushing attack is led by DeAndre Washington who is averaging 8.5 yards per carry with one touchdown and Jakeem Grant leads the Red Raiders in receiving with 13 catches and Devin Lauderdale has 10 receptions and three touchdowns. Defensively Texas Tech is allowing 32.5 points and 525.5 yards per game including an average of 272 yards on the ground and they have three sacks, four fumble recoveries, and two interceptions. Micah Awe leads Texas Tech with 17 tackles and J.J. Gaines and Dakota Allen have 13 each. Texas Tech must improve defensively if they hope to compete in the Big 12 and in this game against a strong SEC opponent.
Arkansas is 6-0 against the spread in their last six games against Big 12 teams, 6-1 against the spread following a loss, and 11-3 against the spread in their last 14 games. Texas Tech is 4-0-1 against the spread in their last five games, 2-5 against the spread against the SEC, and 2-6 against the spread in their last eight road games.
When things start going downhill for Brett Bielema since his move to Arkansas they have continued in that direction so while some may think the Hogs play inspired football here, they could be in some deep trouble so I will take the points with Texas Tech and see them having a chance to win outright.
