The UMass Minutemen (0-1, 0-0 MAC) dropped their first game of the season as they were defeated by the Colorado Buffaloes 48-14 this past Saturday afternoon. UMass was able to hang around with the Buffaloes early in this one as the game was tied at 14-14 in the second quarter however, couldn’t find the scoreboard in the 2nd half. The Minutemen were outgained by the Buffaloes by a 558-397 margin and loss the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin. Leading the way for the Minutemen was QB Blake Frohnapfel who completed 20 of 34 passes for 225 yards with a TD and INT. UMass was able to get 147 yards on the ground and were led by RB Marquis Young (7 carries, 62 yds) and Shadrach Abrokawh (9 carries, 56 yards). WR Tajae Sharpe had a big day as he finished the game with 11 receptions for 138 yards.
The Owls are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in September and 8-3 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Minutemen are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games in September.
UMass has a decent offense that has the ability to put up some points however, their defense is still a major question mark as outside of LB Jovan Santos-Knox and CB Randall Jette, they don’t have much on the defensive end. Temple is one of the most experienced college football teams in the country and as I feel that their defense will cause UMass trouble, I think Temple will be able to easily score enough points to cover in this one. Take Temple to cover!
