Bobcat Stadium will be rocking when the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles face the Texas State Bobcats.
The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles have not been accustomed to winning the past several years so when they do it’s a big deal. The Golden Eagles evened their record at 1-1 after blasting FCS Austin Peay in a game that was over by the half. The Governors mustered just 189 yards and threw a pick six while USM racked up 514 yards split between the pass and run. Nick Mullens gave Southern Miss a productive effort in the air with 275 yards and three touchdowns and an interception on 22-40 with Ito Smith snagging a 49 yard scoring strike. Smith also paced the Golden Eagles on the ground with ten carries for 135 yards and a score with Justice Hayes and Jalen Richard combining for 97 yards.

After getting throttled by Florida State in their season opener it was the Texas State Bobcats doing the throttling in a 63-24 beat down of Prairie View A&M to even their record at 1-1. Most of the fireworks came in the first half with the Bobcats ahead 56-17 at the intermission. Most of the Bobcats 649 yards came in the first 30 minutes as they could run or throw whenever the mood hit them. Tyler Jones paced Texas State with a near perfect air attack that saw him go 12-14 for 278 yards with three touchdowns with Brandon Smith and Jafus Gaines combining for 191 receiving yards and a TD each. Texas State was just as strong on the ground with Robert Lowe and Chris Nutall totaling 196 yards with a pair of trips to the end zone each.
The over is 7-0 in Golden Eagles last 7 games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game and is 4-0 in Golden Eagles last 4 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous games while the Golden Eagles are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game. The over is 4-0 in Bobcats last 4 games in September and is 4-0 in Bobcats last 4 games overall while Texas State are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games on fieldturf. Right now I lean Texas State at the small chalk but check back for an update…
