The Line: Notre Dame Fighting Irish -28.5 -- Over/Under: 56.5 See the Latest Odds

The Massachusetts Minutemen will travel to Norte Dame Stadium to take on the 6th ranked Norte Dame Fighting Irish in College Football action this Saturday afternoon.

The Massachusetts Minutemen dropped to 0-2 on the season after being defeated 25-23 by the Temple Owls this past Saturday afternoon. The Minutemen loss in heartbreaking fashion as after going up 23-20 with just more than a minute left in the contest, Temple was able to block the PAT attempt and return to make it a 23-22 contest and won it with 32 yard FG with just 12 seconds left to go. UMass was able to hold Jahad Thomas to just 66 yards rushing on 25 carries but allowed QB P.J. Walker to throw for 391 yards in the loss. Leading the way for the Minutemen was QB Black Frohnapfel who completed 29 of 55 passes for 393 yards, 3 TD and an INT. WR Tajae Sharpe (11 receptions, 156 yds) and Rodney Mills (5 rec, 104 yards). UMass were hurt by penalties as they committed 12 penalties for 106 yards in the loss. On the season, UMass has had a solid passing attack averaging 321.5 passing yards/game but haven’t been able to put up a lot of points on the scoreboard as they are averaging just 18.5 ppg. The Minutemen will need to find some more answers on the defense end as they are allowing 36.5 ppg and 508.0 yds/game.

Notre Dame vs. Massachusetts - 9/26/15 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The 6th ranked ND Fighting Irish were able to stay perfect on the season as they improved to 3-0 on the season after defeating the 14th ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets this past Saturday. The Irish were able to dominate the majority of the game as the game really wasn’t as close as the score might reflect as Georgia Tech was able to score two TD’s during the last minute of the game.  The Fighting Irish have been hit hard by injuries so far this season but got big performances from QB DeShone Kizer (21 for 30, 242 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) and RB C.J. Prosise (22 carries, 198 yards, 3 TD). The Fighting Irish’s defense was the real star of the game as they held the high powered GT offense which came into this contest averaging 67 ppg pretty much in check until the final minute. Norte Dame’s defense is allowing just 17.3 ppg and has looked great in their victories over Texas, Virginia, and Georgia Tech. Notre Dame offense is averaging 34.0 ppg and has to be encouraged by the performances of Kizer and Prosise who are filling in for the injured QB Malik Zaire and RB Tarean Folston. WR Will Fuller has also had a great start of the season as he currently has 18 receptions for 397 yards and 5 TD’s on the season.

The Minutemen are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS win and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Fighting Irish are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.

UMass actually looked pretty impressive and outside of a botched extra point late in the game, should have picked up a win against a Temple Owls team that is close to cracking the top-25. ND has continued to look impressive early in the season on both sides of the ball but continue to lose key players due to injuries as safety Drue Tranquill looks as if he might be done for the season after a knee injury. ND has been great so far this season but I think they might under estimate a UMass team that has a decent passing attack and can put some points up on the board. I think UMass will be able to put up enough points to keep this one within the number and I’m thinking of putting something small on the over. Take UMass and the over.
