The Boston College Eagles take their defense to Wallace Wade Stadium to oppose the Duke Blue Devils.
The defense first Boston College Eagles leaned heavily on their ‘D’ in a 17-14 win versus visiting Northern Illinois to up their record to 3-1. The offense and special teams were not very good with only 326 yards and a kick return for a TD late in the game that made the faithful sweat. The fans probably didn’t sweat too much with the Huskies held to 153 yards with two turnovers and barely 22 minutes of possession. BC struggled through the air with quarterback Troy Flutie going 5-11 for 92 yards with a 27 yard scoring strike to Charlie Callinan along with an interception. Jon Hilliman gave the Eagles a quality running threat with 124 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown while Jeff Smith added 56 yards on nine totes.

The Duke Blue Devils rode a 19-3 first quarter burst to a surprisingly easy 34-20 victory against Georgia Tech to improve to 3-1. The Yellow Jackets were more then a touchdown favorite but their vaunted option attack was stifled by the Blue Devils with only 379 yards. Duke didn’t set the world on fire with a mere 279 yards and three turnovers but a 100 yard kick return by DeVon Edwards helped offset some of the offensive woes. Duke’s passing attack was short dump offs by quarterback Thomas Sirk who connected on 17-25 for 114 yards with an eleven yard TD to TJ Rahming along with a pair of picks. Shaquille Powell was Duke’s offensive star with 88 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns.
The Eagles are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game and are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game while going 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The under is 5-0 in Blue Devils last 5 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game and is 4-0 in Blue Devils last 4 games overall while Duke are 7-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. It wouldn’t surprise me if either team won but I have to go with the Eagles and the TD…
