The UNLV Rebels look for the upset of the Nevada Wolf Pack at MacKay Stadium.

The UNLV Rebels are not accustomed to winning so Saturday’s 80-8 demolition of FCS Idaho State was big news. The Rebels opened  a 35-0 lead after one quarter and never let up on the way to 626 yards with over 500 yards and a ten yard average on the  ground. The Bengals were held to just 282 yards with four interceptions including a pick six. Blake Decker threw for 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Kurt Palendach added ten yards and two TD’s as UNLV threw just 15 times and generally ran the ball. Xzaviar Campbell and Lexington Thomas dominated the rush defense of the Bengals with 139 yards and 109 yards respectively with three scores while Keith Whitely added 95 yards on 12 touches and a TD.

USA TODAY Sports

The Nevada Wolf Pack overcame a cross country road trip to upend Buffalo 24-21 to even their record at 2-2. The Wolf Pack struggled to stop the passing of Joe Licata who threw for 338 yards put a pair of picks and a fumble recovery helped even out the Bulls 487-379 yardage edge. Quarterback Tyler Stewart went 12-21 for 90 yards in a so, so passing attack but the ground game was more then able to pick up the slack. James Butler paced a formidable Wolf Pack running game with 177 yards an a touchdown on 16 carries followed by Don Jackson’s 17 carry, 113 yard performance with a pair of touchdowns. The Nevada rushing attack at least kept Licata on the sideline just enough to squeeze out a win.
