The Golden Panthers did a solid job keeping a decent UMass offensive in check but couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end as they were outgained by a 495-188 margin. Leading the way for the Golden Panthers was RB Alex Gardner who had 59 yards and TD on the ground to go along with 10 receptions for 58 yards. Offensively, Florida International is averaging 21.4 ppg on the season. Leading the way for the Golden Panthers offensive has been QB Alex McGough who has completed 64.6% of his passes for 1129 yards, 10 TD and 2 Int. The Miners are 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 conference games. The Golden Panthers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss and 5-2 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
UTEP was one of the surprising teams in C-USA last season but the loss of Aaron Jones is really going to hurt the Miners chances to get back to a bowl game this season. FIU has been up and down this season and although their offense has struggled to put up points, they’ve been competitive in some their more challenging games against Louisiana Tech and Indiana. Both of these offenses are tough to trust but as UTEP strength is their passing defensive, I think they’ll be able to keep FIU’s Alex McGough in check and I just think FIU being favored by more than two TD’s is too much to ask for a team that averages just 21 ppg this season. Take UTEP and the points.
