The Oklahoma Sooners visit the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry on Saturday.
Most Oklahoma Sooners fans are hoping this is the year the team competes for the National Championship. If the Sooners perform as they did in a 44-24 rout of visiting West Virginia in week five then the sky is the limit. OU outgained the Mountaineers 427-369 and also won the turnover battle 5-2. Quarterback Baker Mayfield gave Oklahoma an explosive effort in the air as he connected on 14-25 for 320 yards and three touchdowns with an interception. Dede Westbrook paced the Sooners receivers with five catches for 107 yards followed by Durron Neal with two receptions for 87 yards and a TD. The OU rushing attack wasn’t a factor with Samaje Perine totaling 65 yards on 16 totes while Joe Mixon ran six times for 43 yards with a trip to the end zone.

The Texas Longhorns have been hoping for a return to national prominence but after a 50-7 defeat at Texas Christian the team stands at 1-4. The Longhorns knew this wasn’t going to be their day when the Horned Fogs jumped to a 30-0 lead after one quarter on the way to over 600 yards while Texas was held to 313 yards. The Horns needed a big day on the ground to keep TCU on the sideline but 112 yards from D’Onta Foreman and 55 yards from Jonathan Gray wasn’t nearly enough. Jerrod Heard struggled to move the Longhorns in the air on an 8-20 effort for 48 yards and Tyrone Swoopes 74 yards and a touchdown wasn’t enough either as seven receivers were held to short gains.
The over is 6-0 in Sooners last 6 games in October and is 7-1 in Sooners last 8 vs. a team with a losing record while the Sooners are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game. The under is 5-0 in Longhorns last 5 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game and the Longhorns are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game while going 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. loss. The over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and the Sooners are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Texas. This is a huge spread for a rivalry game and I hate that but the potential is with Oklahoma in my view…
