Miami (Ohio) vs. Northern Illinois - 10/17/15 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Miami (OH) Redhawks lost their 5th straight game and dropped to 1-5 (0-2 MAC-East) on season after being defeated by the Ohio Bobcats 34-3 this past Saturday. The Redhawks were outgained on the offensive end by a 428-253 margin and committed 4 turnovers in the loss. QB Billy Bhal threw 4 interceptions in the loss and were led offensively by WR Jared Murphy who had 76 yards on 3 receptions. On the season, Miami (OH) is averaging just 15.0 ppg on 333.5 yards per game (213.0 passing, 120.5 rushing). The Redhawks have been led by the rushing attack that consists of Gus Ragland (32 carries, 194 yards) and Alonzo Smith (50 carries, 185 yards, 3 TD). Miami (OH) hasn’t had much of an answer at the QB position and both Drew Kummer (47.9 comp %, 849 yards, 7 TD, 6 Int) and Billy Bahl (37.5 comp %, 351 yards, 1 TD, 9 Int). Sam Martin (16 rec, 279 yards, 1 TD) and Jared Murphy (13 rec, 239 yards) lead the way for the Redhawks WR’s. On the defensive side, Miami (OH) is currently allowing their opponents to average 35.3 ppg on 438.5 yards per game (261.2 passing, 177.3 rushing). The Redhawks have been hurt by turnovers as the currently have a minus-10 turnover margin. Leading the way for the defense has been LB Kent Kern (50 tackles, 1.0 sacks) and LB Paul Moses (41 tackles, 3.0 sacks).

The Huskies are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. win and 18-6-2 ATS in their last 26 road games. The Redhawks are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 home games.

Northern Illinois has been solid this season and although they have three losses on the season, two of those losses came on the road in tight games against Ohio State and Boston College. Outside of their close loss to Cincinnati, Miami (OH) has really struggled putting up on points on the season. Northern Illinois surprisingly gave up over 40 points to Ball Sate but I think they’ll have no issue holding Miami (OH) to single digits and that Joel Bouagnon and the offensive does enough to cover this spread. Take Northern Illinois to cover in this one.
