USA TODAY Sports

The Ohio Bobcats got a strong effort from their defense and improved to 5-1 (2-0 MAC-East) on the season after defeating the Miami (OH) Redhawks 34-3 this past Saturday.  The Bobcats outgained the Redhawks by a 428-253 margin and forced Miami (OH) to commit 4 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for Ohio was WR Sebastian Smith who had 91 yards and a TD on 9 receptions. On the season, Ohio is averaging 28.8 ppg on 388.5 ypg. Ohio had some major question marks at the QB coming into the season but had gotten solid play from Derrius Vick who has completed 67.2% of his passes for 1164 yards, 8 TD’s and 3 Int. Vick has spread the ball to multiple receivers as the Bobcats have five receivers that average between 2.0 and 4.3 receptions and are led by Sebastian Smith who has 26 receptions for 342 yards and 4 TD. Leading the rushing attack is Daz’mond Patterson (60 carries, 285 yards, 5 TD) and A.J. Ouellette (59 carries, 249 yards, 2 TD). Defensively, the Bobcats have been outstanding as they are holding opponents to just 15.7 ppg on 337 yards per game. The Bobcats currently have forced 15 turnovers this season and have a turnover margin of plus-9. Leading the way for the defense is LB Quentin Poling (40 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 Int).

The Broncos are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a S.U. win and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 conference games. The Bobcats are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.

The Ohio Bobcats, especially their defense, has been outstanding this season and were one late TD away against Minnesota from being undefeated. Western Michigan was a popular pick to win the MAC-East this season and although they are only 2-3 on the season, their losses have come against Ohio State, Michigan State, and Georgia Southern. The Bobcats have been have been solid this season but this will probably be their toughest challenge of the season as the Western Michigan offense has many weapons. I think this will be a close game but as the Broncos are getting more than a FG, I’m going to with Western Michigan in this one.
