The Charlotte 49ers look to even their record when they visit the Old Dominion Monarchs in week seven.
The Charlotte 49ers have the odds stacked against them in their first season in the FBS and need are finding the sledding difficult at times. One of those ‘times’ came in a 37-3 defeat at the hands of visiting Temple to drop their record to 2-3. The 49ers actually had a 354-322 edge in yards but when the Owls got close they found the end zone. The 49ers needed some stretch the field passing but Lee McNeill completed 13-27 for 131 yards and an interception with Khalif Phillips catch a pair of throws for 41 yards. Phillips paced Charlotte on the ground with a 19 carry, 125 yards performance but the team could not find the end zone.

The Old Dominion Monarchs might be a bit better defensively but they are not even close to matching last season’s offense and they could have used some points in a 27-7 week five loss at Marshall. The Thundering Herd led in yardage 324-285 and shot themselves in the foot with four turnovers. ODU needed a productive passing game but Shuler Bentley was off target with a 13-35 effort for 101 yards with a pair of interceptions making a bad day worse. Zach Pascal was the only Monarchs receiver of note with three catches for 60 yards with a long of 39 yards. Ray Lawry was Old Dominion’s offensive star with 160 rushing yards on 29 carries with a trip to the end zone.
The under is 5-0 in Monarchs last 5 games following a ATS loss and the Monarchs are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a losing road record while Old Dominion are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall. This seems like a lot of points to give with a poor squad but the Monarchs might be the lesser of two evils…
