The San Jose Spartans battle conference rival the San Jose State Aztecs at Spartan Stadium.
The San Diego State Aztecs don’t have an explosive offense so their MO is score some points and keep the scoreboard in check with their defense. That was what we saw in a 28-14 victory at Hawaii. A 21-7 lead at the half was enough to win as the Warriors were held to 251 yards and turned the ball over three times. The Aztecs did their damage on 402 yards with the rushing attack leading the way with Donnel Pumphrey totaling 148 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries. Quarterback Maxwell Smith gave SDSU an efficient passing attack on 11-15 with 184 yards with a score with Eric Judge posting four receptions and a TD.

I don’t see the San Jose Spartans getting in to too many shootouts as they seem to play things close to the vest and try to make a few more plays to win games. That script was followed in a 33-27, overtime victory at improving UNLV. This was even throughout with SJSU holding a 444-403 yardage advantage with both teams giving the ball away twice. The Spartans rode the right arm of quarterback Kenny Potter who connected on 30-48 for 329 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception with Tyler Ervin recording eight balls for 74 yards and a score. Ervin also was the Spartans go to guy on the ground with an 18 carry, 73 yard effort with a trip to the end zone.
The under is 6-0 in Aztecs last 6 games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game and is 6-0 in Aztecs last 6 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game while going 4-0 in Aztecs last 4 games following a S.U. win. The Spartans are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game and the over is 5-0 in Spartans last 5 games on fieldturf while the Spartans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in October. This looks like a dead heat and I’ll back the home team…
