The Charlotte 49ers will travel to FIU Stadium to take on the Florida International Golden Panthers this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.

The Charlotte 49ers lost their 6th straight game and dropped to 2-6 (0-5 C-USA East) on the season after being defeating by the Marshall Thundering Herd, 34-10, this past Saturday. Charlotte was outgained by Marshall by a 630-307 margin and allowed QB Chase Litton of the Thundering Herd to throw for a career high 486 yards and 2 TD’s in the loss. Leading the way for the 49ers was RB Kalif Phillips who had 99 yards and a TD on 23 carries.  On the season, Charlotte is averaging 16.9 ppg on 344.5 yards per game (167.1 passing, 177.4 rushing). Leading the way offensively for Charlotte has been RB Kalif Phillips who had 5 TD and is averaging 109.13 yards/game. The 49ers have had answers at the QB as current starter Lee McNeil has 0 TD’s and 10 INT’s on the season while averaging just 86.3 passing yards per game. Charlotte has only one receiver averaging more than 30 yards a game in Austin Duke that has 2 TD’s on the season while averaging 4.6 receptions and 48.0 yards per game. Defensively, Charlotte is allowing their opponents to average 34.0 ppg on 404.8 yards per game (259.5 passing, 145.3 rushing). The 49ers have had trouble protecting the football as they have committed 29 turnovers on the season and currently have a turnover margin of minus-13. Florida International vs. Charlotte - 11/7/15 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Florida International Golden Panthers had trouble stopping the rushing attack of the Florida Atlantic Owls and dropped to 4-5 (2-3 C-USA East) on the season after being defeated 31-17 this past Saturday. Florida International allowed Florida Atlantic to gain 229 yards on the ground and committed two turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Golden Panthers was RB Alex Gardner who had 105 yards on 20 carries. On the season, Florida Atlantic is averaging 27.9 ppg on 373.0 yards per game (264.1 passing, 108.9 rushing). Leading the way offensively for the Golden Panthers has been QB Alex McGough who 18 TD/4 INT on the season and is averaging 249.4 yards passing per game. The Florida International rushing attack is led by Alex Gardner who has 6 TD’s on the season while averaging 16.56 carries and 68.78 yards per game. WR Thomas Owens (4.9 rec/game, 60.8 yards/game, 7 TD) and TE Jonnu Smith (4.5 rec/game, 49.6 yards/game, 4 TD) are the leading receivers for the Golden Panthers. Defensively, Florida International is holding their opponents to 23.6 ppg on 392.6 yards per game (221.1 passing, 171.5 rushing). Florida International has done a decent job protecting the ball this season as they’ve committed just 10 turnovers and have a turnover margin of plus 2. Leading the way defensively for the Golden Panthers has been LB Anthony Wint (68 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 1 INT) and DB Jeremiah McKinnon (42 tackles, 3 INT).

The 49ers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 conference games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Golden Panthers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games.

Although I’m a bit concern that RB Kalif Phillips will be able to expose the Florida International rush defense as Florida Atlantic did last week, I think Florida International has too many weapons on offense for Charlotte to hang around in this game. I see this game being close in the beginning but once Charlotte needs to abandon the run game, Florida International should be able to get a few turnovers off the 49ers and blow this one open for at least a 3 TD win at home. Take Florida International to cover in this one.
