The Akron Zips will travel to Gillette Stadium this Saturday afternoon to take on the Massachusetts Minutemen in College Football action.

The Akron Zips fell to 3-5 (1-3 MAC East) on the season after being defeated by the Central Michigan Chippewas 14-6 this past Saturday. The Zips outgained the Chippewas by a 277-265 margin but had trouble containing QB Cooper Rush who finished the game with 226 yards and 2 TD. Leading the way for Akron was QB Thomas Woodson who completed 22 of 36 passes for 252 yards, TD, and an INT. on the season, Akron is averaging just 21.5 ppg on 346.6 yards per game (191.6 passing, 155.0 rushing). Leading the way offensively for the Zips has been RB Conor Hundley who had 6 TD’s on the season while averaging 72.13 yards per game. QB Thomas Woodson has thrown for 9 TD’s and 6 INT’s on the season and is completing just 52.9% of his passes while averaging 155.1 yards/game. Massachusetts vs. Akron - 11/7/15 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Massachusetts Minutemen lost their 4th consecutive game and dropped to 1-7 (0-4 MAC East) on the season after being defeated by the Ball State Cardinals 20-10 this past Saturday. UMass was able to outgain Ball State by a 448-427 margin however a costly interception in the end zone and two 4th down stops by Ball State kept the Minutemen from putting points on the board. Leading the way for UMass was WR Tajae Sharpe who hauled in 11 receptions for 83 yards in the loss. On the season, UMass is averaging 22.6 ppg on 423.6 yards per game (308.0 passing, 115.6 rushing). Leading the way for UMass has been WR Tajae Sharpe who has been one of the best WR’s in the country as Sharpe has hauled in 4 TD’s and is averaging 11.0 receptions for 122.5 yards per game. QB Blake Frohnapfel has been solid for the Minutemen as he has 15 TD and 7 INT on the season and is averaging 286.6 yards/game. The Minutemen don’ t have much of a rushing attack and have been led by Marquis Young who is averaging 54.50 yards/game and has 2 TD on the season. Defensively, UMass is currently allowing their opponents to average 37.1 ppg on 498.0 yards per game (272.8 passing, 225.2 rushing). The Minutemen currently have a minus-1 turnover margin on the season and have been led defensively by Jovan Santos-Knox (89 tackles, 2.5 sacks).

The Zips are 18-37 ATS in their last 55 conference games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS loss. The Minutemen are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 0-6 ATS in their last 6 conference games.

Although UMass is just 1-7 on the season they’ve played well at home this year and almost had victories against two of the better teams in the country in Temple and Toledo. Akron generally needs to rely on their defense to pull out victories and even though their offense should be able to put up some points on the board against a weak UMass defense, Akron has had trouble defending against passing offensives which UMass is. I think UMass has enough offensive weapons in Tajae Sharpe, Rodney Mills, and Blake Frohnapfel that they pull out a victory at home in this one and cover this small spread. Take UMass to cover.
