The Memphis Tigers travel to TDECU Stadium to take on the Houston Cougars this Saturday night in College Football action.

The Memphis Tigers couldn’t contain the strong Navy rushing attacked and dropped their first game of the season (8-1; 4-1 American West) after being defeated by the Midshipmen 45-20 this past Saturday. Memphis allowed Navy to gain 374 yards on the ground and committed three turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for Memphis was QB Paxton Lynch who completed 26 of 42 passes for 305 yards, 1 TD and an INT. On the season, Memphis is averaging 44.8 ppg on 546.7 yards per game (352.1 passing, 194.6 rushing). Leading the offensive for the Tigers is QB Paxton Lynch who has 19 TD’s and 2 INT while completing 68.9% of his passes for an average of 334.9 passing yards per game. Mose Frazier (5.8 rec/game, 69.6 yds/game, 3 TD) and Anthony Miller (4.2 rec/game, 67.4 yds/game, 4 TD) have been the favorite targets for Paxton Lynch this season. The Tigers rushing attack is led by Doroland Dorceus (11.44 att/game, 49.89 yds/game, 7 TD) and Jarvis Cooper (9.63 att/game, 42.75 yds/game, 5 TD). Defensively, Memphis is allowing their opponents to average 28.7 ppg on 437.2 yards per game (290.1 passing, 147.1 rushing). Outside of their recent game against Navy, Memphis has done a nice job protecting the ball as they’ve only committed 9 turnovers on the season and has a turnover margin of plus 3. Leading the Tigers defensively has been LB Genard Avery who had 49 tackles and 3 sacks.

USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Cougars remained a perfect 9-0 (5-0 American West) on the season after they were able to hang on and defeat the Cincinnati Bearcats 33-30 this past Saturday. Houston had trouble slowing down Cincinnati QB Gunner Kiel who ended the game with 523 passing yards however, did force the Bearcats to commit three turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for Houston was QB Greg Ward Jr. who threw for 161 yards, 2 TD, and 2 INT while adding 119 yards on the ground. On the season, Houston is averaging 44.4 ppg on 525.1 yards per game (252.1 passing, 273.0 rushing). QB Greg Ward Jr. is the unquestioned offensive leader for Houston and one of the best duel-threat QB’s in college football as he is averaging 235.1 passing yards per game and 92.1 rushing yards per game and has a combined 29 TD’s this season. WR Demarcus Ayers (6.8 rec/game, 85.4 yds/game, 5 TD) and Chance Allen (3.8 rec/game, 53.1 yds/game, 3 TD) have done much of the damage for Houston at the WR position. The Houston rushing attack besides Ward Jr. has been led by Kenneth Farrow who has 10 TD’s this season to go along with his 95.22 yds/game average. Defensively, Houston has been solid this season as they are holding their opponents to an average of just 18.7 ppg on 367.6 yards per game (268.1 passing, 99.5 rushing). Houston currently has forced 25 turnovers this season and has an incredible turnover margin of plus 16. Leading the Cougars defense has been LB Steven Taylor who has 61 tackles, 8.0 sacks, and 2 INT.

The Tigers are 6-2-2 ATS in their last 10 road games and 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 games in November. The Cougars are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS loss and 4-1-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

Memphis might have overlooked a very good team in Navy last weekend in light of this big matchup against Houston and knowing that Navy still has to play Houston this season, knows this is almost a must win game. Houston has a very good team but their defense was exposed by a quality QB last weekend and I think Memphis Paxton Lynch will be able get the Tigers offense rolling in Houston. This should be a faced paced game with a lot of points scored but I think Memphis will this many points in the way to go. Take Memphis and the points.
