The North Texas Mean Green dropped to 1-9 (1-5 C-USA West) on the season after being defeated 24-0 this past Saturday by the Tennessee Volunteers. North Texas did a decent job hanging around with Tennessee early in the game but had trouble generating any sort of offense as they were outgained by the Volunteers by a 409-199 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Mean Green was WR Marcus Smith who caught 5 receptions for 46 yards. The North Texas offense has been led by QB DaMarcus Smith who is has 8 TD and 4 INT while throwing for 112.8 yds/game. USA TODAY Sports

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders picked up their second straight victory and improved to 5-5 (4-2 C-USA East) on the season after defeating the Florida Atlantic Owls 24-17 this past Saturday. Middle Tennessee held Florida Atlantic to just 75 rushing yards in the contest and outgained the Owls by a 479-297 margin. Leading the way for the Blue Raiders was QB Brent Stockstill who completed 18 of 32 passes for 301 yards, 2 TD, and 1 INT. On the season, Middle Tennessee is averaging 32.8 ppg on 455.4 yards per game (313.9 passing, 141.5 rushing). The Blue Raiders offense has been led by QB Brent Stockstill who has 23 TD’s and 7 INT on the season while throwing for an average of 309.9 yds/game. Richie James (103.7 yds/game, 6 TD) and Ed’Marques Batties (81.4 yds/game, 12 TD) have the favorite WR targets for Stockstill. The Middle Tennessee rushing attack has been led by Desmond Anderson (41.44 yds/game, 4 TD) and Jordan Parker (45.25 yds/game, 4 TD). Defensively, Middle Tennessee is allowing their opponents to average 28.7 ppg on 404.4 yards per game (269.4 passing, 135 rushing). The Blue Raiders have a turnover margin of minus 5 and are led defensively by LB T.T. Barber who has 77 tackles, 4 sacks, and a INT.

The Mean Green are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. loss and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Blue Raiders are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win however, just 1-4 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.

It’s been a long season for North Texas but they have to be happy with the recent effort they put in on the road against a very good Tennessee team. Middle Tennessee has had somewhat of a disappointing season as although the offense certainly can put up some points, their defense is still allowing over 400 yards of total offense a game. Outside of destroying Charlotte early in the season, Middle Tennessee hasn’t beaten any other C-USA opponent by double digits.  I don’t expect the Mean Green to win the game but their defense looked better against Tennessee last week and I think their offense will be able to put up some points to keep this one within the large number. Take North Texas and the points.
