USA TODAY Sports

The Rice Owls lost their 4th consecutive game and dropped to 4-7 (2-5 C-USA West) on the season after being defeated by the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, 34-24, this past Saturday. Rice was able to outgain Texas-San Antonio by a 520-431 margin however, allowed the Roadrunners to score 21 points in the 2nd quarter and committed three turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Owls was QB Driphus Jackson who completed 23 of 40 passes for 359 yards, 2 TD, and 2 INT. On the season, Rice is averaging 26.0 ppg on 399.0 total yards per game (233.2 passing, 165.8 rushing). Leading the way for the Owls has been QB Driphus Jackson who has 18 TD’s and 6 INT while averaging 202.4 yds/game and has added an additional two TD’s on the ground. The Owls rushing attack is led by Darik Dillard (57.00 yds/game, 5 TD) and Samuel Steward (36.60 yds/game, 4 TD). Zack Wright (48.8 yds/game, 5 TD), Dennis Parks (55.3 yds/game, 3 TD) and Nate German (48.4 yds/game) lead the way for the Owls WR’s. Defensively, Rice is allowing their opponents to average 38.5 ppg on 462.2 yards per game (266.2 passing, 196.0 rushing). Rice has only forced 13 turnovers on the season and currently has a turnover margin of -11.

The 49ers are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss and 0-3-2 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Owls are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a losing road record however, are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games.

C-USA has a couple of big games this week and this is certainly not one of them as both teams haven’t been able to get a win over the past month. Charlotte has absolutely no passing attack although they do have a talented runner in Kalif Phillips who as of right now, should be in line to play this week. Rice will count on Driphus Jackson to lead a passing attack that at times, have been able to put up some points this season. Both teams have looked awful as of late so I’m probably going to stay away from this one, but if I was forced to pick a side, I will take Charlotte as I think they’ll be able to find some success on the ground if Kalif Phillips is able to go.
