TV: ESPN

The Arizona Wildcats and the New Mexico Lobos get college football bowl season started as they meet on Saturday in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.

It has been a tough year for the Arizona Wildcats as a year after going to the Pac-12 Championship game they finished the regular season at 6-6. Aside from an overtime win over Utah Arizona’s wins came over the bottom teams in the Pac-12 and against a soft out of conference schedule. The Arizona offense is averaging 36.8 points and 494.2 yards per game and they turned the ball over 18 times. Wildcats QB Anu Solomon has completed 62.7 percent of his passes with 18 touchdowns and just four interceptions and he has rushed for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Arizona’s top rusher Nick Wilson is out for this one so it will be senior Jared Baker carrying the load while Cayleb Jones and Johnny Jackson are the top receivers. The Arizona defense has allowed 35.7 points and 463.3 yards per game with eight interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and 25 sacks. The big news here is Arizona will have Scooby Wright III back for this game after missing nearly the entire season while Will Parks led the Cats with 72 tackles and Paul Magliore Jr. had 59 tackles. It will be interesting to see just how much impact Wright has after missing so much time.

Arizona vs. New Mexico - 12/19/15 New Mexico Bowl College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The New Mexico Lobos finished the season strong winning three of their last four games to land in this game. New Mexico put up wins against Boise State and Air Force but in their only action this year against a Pac-12 opponent they were stomped by Arizona State. The New Mexico offense is averaging 29.3 points and 378.2 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 18 times. Lobos QB Lamar Jordan has completed 53.2 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and six interceptions in the run first offense and he has rushed for 672 yards and six touchdowns. Jhurell Pressley leads the New Mexico ground attack with 846 yards and 11 touchdowns and Teriyon Gipson has rushed for 766 yards and six touchdowns and Dameon Gamblin is the top receiver with 33 catches and two touchdowns. The New Mexico defense is allowing 27 points and 432.2 yards per game with 13 interceptions, 10 fumble recoveries, and 29 sacks. Dakota Cox leads the Lobos defense with 89 tackles, Kimmie Carson has 63 tackles, and Daniel Henry has 63 tackles. Just about everyone on the UNM defense can get after the passer.

Arizona is 1-4 against the spread in their last five bowl games and 1-5 against the spread in their last six neutral site games. New Mexico is 9-19 against the spread in their last 28 non-conference games and 1-5 against the spread following a win.

Combined these teams allow almost 1,000 yards of offense per game on average and despite this one likely being run heavy so faster moving as far as the clock my play here is the over though I wouldn’t consider it a strong play because we may see some rust after the time off.
