The Line: Appalachian State Mountaineers -7 -- Over/Under: 55 See the Latest Odds

TV: ESPN

The Appalachian State Mountaineers take the field with the Ohio Bobcats in the Camillia Bowl.

It appears the Ohio Bobcats rebuild was a success although a three game winning streak to end the regular season was needed. The defense first Bobcats were #49 nationally with 374 yards allowed and were #54 against both the run and pass with almost 25 points allowed. The Bobcats were solid offensively at 426 yards but barely cracked the top 50 when passing and running although 27 points meant a shootout was bad news. Ohio does have issues at quarterback where Derrius Vick and JD Sprague threw for 1,807 and 789 yards respectively but both are banged up. Sebastian Hill and Jordan Reid led the receiving corps with almost 1,400 yards between them while AJ Ouellette led the rushing attack with 642 yards with Daz’mond Patterson totaling nearly 500 yards.

USA TODAY Sports

I had the Appalachian State Mountaineers pegged as the best team in the Sun Belt but a loss to Arkansas State left them staring at second. The numbers were championship quality with a top 30 run  and  pass D that allowed just 318 yards and a mere 18 points. The Mountaineers were no strangers to finding the endzone at 37 points per contest behind the #6 rushing attack that averaged 270 yards. ASU was a run first squad but quarterback Taylor Lamb threw for over 2,200 yards with 29 touchdowns and eight picks with Shaedon Meadors, Malachi Jones and Simms McElfresh each totaling over 400 yards in receptions. The Mountaineers flourished on the ground with Marcus Cox leading the way with 1,266 yards while Jalin Moore and Terrence Upshaw combining for over 1,000 yards.

The under is 3-0-1 in Bobcats last 4 games in December and the Bobcats are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games while the over is 6-0-1 in Bobcats last 7 vs. S-Belt. The Mountaineers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and  are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win while the under is 5-0 in Mountaineers last 5 non-conference games. The Mountaineers have a lot of advantages but Ohio does concern me…
