The Cincinnati Bearcats and the San Diego State Aztecs face off on Christmas Eve in the Hawaii Bowl.
The Cincinnati Bearcats finished their regular season college football schedule at 7-5 alternating wins and losses down the stretch. The Cincinnati offense is averaging 36.1 points and 559.2 yards per game and they have turned the over 30 times. Gunner Kiel was banged around much of the season completing 65.2 percent of his passes with 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Shaq Washington is UC’s leading receiver with 88 catches with six touchdowns and Hosey Williams is the top rusher with 725 yards and four touchdowns but Mike Boone and Tion Green were close behind with less than 30 yards separating the group. The Cincinnati defense is allowing 30.2 points and 414.7 yards per game with nine interceptions, 16 fumble recoveries, and 12 sacks. Eric Wilson leads the Bearcats with 103 tackles, Zach Edwards has 87 tackles, and Silverberry Mouhon has 4.5 sacks. For Cincinnati to have a chance here they are going to need to eliminate the turnovers.

The San Diego State Aztecs finished the regular season at 10-3 and won the Mountain West Conference Championship game. The San Diego State offense is averaging 31.4 points and 378.3 yards per game and they turned the ball over 12 times. SDSU QB Maxwell Smith has completed 55 percent of his passes with 13 touchdowns and two interceptions and he rushed for two touchdowns. Donne Pumphrey leads the Aztecs ground attack with 1,554, yards and 16 touchdowns and he also had 27 receptions and three more touchdowns and Mikah Holder has 23 receptions and five touchdowns. The San Diego State defense is allowing 17.2 points and 287.9 yards per game with 20 interceptions, nine fumble recoveries, and 33 sacks. Calvin Munson leads the Aztecs defense with 92 tackles including nine sacks, Jake Fely has 77 tackles, and Malik Smith and Na’im McGee each have 72 tackles. San Diego State was a big surprise this season but they aren’t going to sneak up on anyone at this point.
Cincinnati is 8-2 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, 2-6 against the spread in their last eight bowl games, and 1-7 against the spread in their last eight non-conference games. San Diego State is 7-1-1 against the spread in their last nine games overall, 1-4 against the spread in their last nine neutral site games, and 0-7 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games.
Expect some fireworks in this one and look for it to go over the total and that is going to be my free pick.
