Boise State Broncos 2016 Preview
The 2016 Boise State Broncos look to nail down the MWC and return to the national spotlight.
Overview: The Broncos looked dominant at times a season ago but were uncharacteristically bad in their losses. An experienced Broncos squad are favored to capture the Mountain West and break double figures in wins…on paper.

Offense: The high powered Broncos are set at quarterback with Brett Rypien bringing back 3,350 passing yards on over 63%. Rypien will have quality targets to throw to once again with Thomas Sperbeck hauling in 89 balls for over 1,400 yards a year ago while Chaz Anderson, Jeremy McNichols and Jake Roth combined for 126 catches for nearly 1,100 yards to give the Boise air attack punch. McNichols also paced the Broncos on the ground (240-1337) and he has four players back with starting experience to run behind on the offensive line so Boise State should have no problem moving the chains and finding the endzone once again.
Defense: Boise State was rock solid against the run but what happens when four of your top five defensive linemen are gone? Overall, six players are gone and six return from a deep rotation that saw playing time thanks to several routs so there is some experience back and some three star athletes waiting to get on the field. Virtually every linebacker returns with Ben Weaver and Tanner Vallejo combining for 12 TFL. In a nutshell, Boise State could use a few more corners in the secondary but have eight players back albeit some with more experience then others with CB Jonathan Moxey bringing ten passes defended back.
Special Teams: Boise gets back punter Sean Wale and exceptional placekicker Tyler Rausa who nailed 25-30 field goals. The return teams will need some new faces however.
Outlook: If the Broncos play as capable there is no reason they can’t win the Mountain West although I felt the same way a season ago before some shockingly poor performances so nothing is etched in stone for me.
