Charlotte 49ers 2016 Preview
The Charlotte 49ers will lean on their experience to improve upon their 2-10 record of 2015.
Overview: Brad Lambert and the 49ers are Bowl eligible in 2016 and have plenty of experience back but the question is whether the talent is postseason caliber.

Offense: Charlotte struggled to complete passes and made too many mistakes with three quarterbacks in 2015 so Lambert plucked Kevin Olsen from the JUCO ranks to take over under center and moved former QB Matt Johnson to running back after rushing for 386 yards in 2015. Kalif Phillips led Charlotte with 961 despite missing several games so he is a 1,000+ yard man. If Olsen proves to be a competent passer then the 49ers receiving trio of Austin Duke, Trent Bostick and TL Ford will take some pressure off the ground game. Charlotte used several different combinations on the offensive line so seven players are back that had starts in 2015.
Defense: Charlotte gave up 36 points per game a season ago but they played above those numbers given the amount of time they were on the field but overall this unit was decent versus the pass and not very good against run. The 49ers return virtually everyone on the defensive line with NT Larry Ogunjobi recording 14.5 TFL while end Zach Duncan totaled 7.5 TFL and four sacks. The 49ers linebacking crew gets back Nick Cook with his six TFL while Daquan Lucas recorded ten TFL at OLB. Charlotte also gets back the majority of their secondary with corners Terrance Winchester and Tank Norman combining for five picks and nine passes defensed.
Special Teams: Charlotte gets back punter Arthur Hart and placekicker Blake Brewer but the latter was a dismal 14-27 on field goals. Anthony Covington is back as the 49ers kick returner but bringing back punts has to be addressed.
Outlook: If the passing game improves which should happen and the defense holds their own I can see the 49ers doubling their win total but reaching a Bowl is probably not in the cards.
