UTEP Miners 2016 Preview
The injury bug bit the UTEP Miners a year ago so the team hopes to stay healthy and go Bowling in 2016.
Overview: Despite injuries in 2015 the Miners still made a run at a Bowl so a veteran team that manages to stays on the field is at the top of the wish list of head coach Sean Kugler.

Offense: New offensive coordinator Brent Pease will have to decide if returning quarterback Ryan Metz can eliminate mistakes or if Kavika Johmson has what it takes to lead the Miners. UTEP will keep the ball on the ground as much as possible but a viable passing attack is possible with Jaquan White, Hayden Plinke, Warren Redix and Tyler Batson all returning. The obvious key to the Miners attack is the return of RB Aaron Jones whose foot injury ended his 2015 campaign early and will ply his wares behind a line that returns six players with starting experience.
Defense: New defensive coordinated Tom Mason will implement a 3-4 scheme which will put some pressure on NG Gino Bresolin with end Nick Usher and DT Sky Logan combining for 15 TFL and 6.5 sacks while eight players that saw the field a year ago are back although we can expect some ends moving to linebacker. The Miners return their top linebacker in Alvin Jones who recorded a team high 70.5 tackles including 14.5 TFL and 6.5 sacks. Opponents had great success passing on the Miners secondary but youth and injuries were definitely a factor.
Special Teams: Texas El Paso returns punter Alan Luna and placekicker Jay Mattox who was automatic on field goals of less then 40 yards. JUCO transfer Terry Juniel will be the main gun in the Miners return game.
Outlook: A quarterback that is a competent passer and a relatively injury free and veteran roster says the Miners have Bowl potential especially with a very negotiable schedule with few toughies.
