Duke Blue Devils 2016 Preview
David Cutcliffe and the Duke Blue Devils are eyeing yet another Bowl in 2016.
Overview: Cutcliffe has a few holes to fill and a quarterback coming back from injury but the Blue Devils are proving they are no longer just a basketball school.

Offense: If you are a Duke Blue Devils football fan you want to know if quarterback Thomas Sirk ‘s Achilles is 100% because we are talking about a guy who threw for 2,625 yards and led the team in rushing with 880 yards or we’re talking about Parker Boehme and his 579 passing yards. Shaun Wilson and Jela Duncan give the Blue Devils options on the ground with a combined 500+ yards but things are a bit more complicated in the air where four of the top six have graduated. TJ Rahming (43-571) and Anthony Nash (32-475) are Duke’s top receivers from 2015 with Chris Taylor possibly earning a starting role. The O-Line features three starters back but the Blue Devils have plenty of 3-4 star athletes.
Defense: The defensive line lost three of their top four with tackle AJ Wolf the top guy back with four TFL but Duke ran a deep rotation last year which could be beneficial in 2016. The Blue Devils get back three of their top four linebackers with Tinashe Bere leading the group with 4.5 TFL but the real danger here is that an injury or two has the team looking at all freshman. The Duke secondary is the most experienced group on the defensive side of the football with corners DeVon Edwards and Breon Borders combining for 19 passes defensed while safety Deondre Singleton recorded six TFL but the loss of Jeremy Cash and his 18 TFL won’t be replaced.
Special Teams: Both kicker and punter graduated with Danny Stirt and Austin Parker emerging from the spring as the leading replacements while DeVon Edwards brings three scores to the kick return game.
Outlook: The schedule might play out to be a bit more difficult and that makes going to the postseason less then a sure thing but I’m more inclined to think the Blue Devils could be getting another Bowl invite.
