The Line: Florida Gators -37 -- Over/Under: 48.5 See the Latest Odds

TV: SEC Network

The Florida Gators and the Massachusetts Minutemen face off on Saturday in the Swamp as the kick off their 2016 college football seasons.

The Florida Gators started last season at 10-1 but they lost their last three games to finish the season at 10-4 though they did play in the SEC Championship game. After some uncertainty the Gators start the season at QB with Luke Del Rio who is the son of Oakland Raiders coach Jack Del Rio. Jordan Scarlett looks to become the next highly productive Florida running back as he runs behind a line that returns three starters but wasn’t strong a year ago. UF receivers have under performed for years but they are hoping Antonio Calloway and Brandon Powell break that mold. The Florida defense lost a lot but they return plenty as well including linebacker Jarrad Davis who is a tackling machine. Jalen Tabor is Florida’s best corner and Marcus Maye provides the senior leadership at safety. Florida is going to go as far as their QB Play will take them.

Florida vs. Massachusetts - 9/3/16 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Massachusetts Minutemen are coming off of a very disappointing 3-9 season and are playing their first season as an independent after leaving the MAC. Andrew Ford takes over at QB for the Minutemen and he was a transfer from Virginia Tech after being highly recruited out of high school. UMass running back Marquis Young lit up Buffalo last season for 240 yards and three touchdowns to close out the season so hopes are high he could be a budding star. Jalen Williams and Bernard Williams will probably be busy as the Massachusetts wide receivers and tight end Travis Reynolds is a converted Australian rules football player. The UMass defense doesn’t return much from a unit that was miserable last season. Peter Angh is the lone returning starter on the DL at defensive tackle and linebacker Shane Huber is only other returning starter. Khari Bailey-Smith returns to lead the UMass secondary after sitting out with an injury. This looks like it is going to be a tough season for UMass.

Florida is 0-4 against the spread in their last four home games, 0-4 against the spread in their last four non-SEC games, and 14-6-1 against the spread in September. UMass is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven road games, 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games, and 0-4 against the spread on grass.

The total in this one is set at 48.5 and I have it going well over that number so the over is my free pick.
