War Memorial Stadium and the Wyoming Cowboys host the Northern Illinois Huskies to open the season.
The Northern Illinois Huskies seem like they are always a threat in the MAC but in order to stay that way, quarterback Drew Hare has to remain upright and on the field after leading three signal callers in passing and totaling the second most rushing yards in 2015. Hare and the Huskies passing attack will be solid with the return of 1,100 yard receiver Kenny Golladay who will combine with Chad Beebe and Aregeros Turner as the top targets. Joel Bouagnon gave NIU over 1,300 yards on the ground but the rushing attack could use some depth and explosiveness with Bouagnon averaging around 4 ½ yards per touch and the loss of two All MAC linemen doesn’t help that situation.

Craig Bohl built a monster squad at North Dakota State and Wyoming is hoping 2016 is the start of something big. If so, the Cowboys have to break the 20 point plateau and the pressure will be on quarterback Josh Allen to produce in the air. The Cowboys have a ton of receiving options at their disposal with Jake Maulhardt, Tanner Gentry and Zach Wallace needing to catch the ball if Allen can get it to them. The Cowboys return 1,600+ yard runner Brian Hill who is the best back in the Mountain West and will combine with a healthy Shaun Wick to form a formidable backfield that is poised to do plenty of damage in 2016 behind an experienced line that gets back four starters.
The Huskies are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 versus the MWC and the under is 8-2 in Huskies last 10 road games while Northern Illinois are 19-5-2 ATS in their last 26 road games. The over is 4-0 in Cowboys last 4 versus the MAC and the Cowboys are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games in September while Wyoming are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games on turf. Bohl has got to start doing something and I’d be disappointed without a cover…
