Apogee Stadium and the North Texas Mean Green host the rival SMU Mustangs in the opener for both squads.
The Southern Methodist Mustangs showed some offensive potential in 2015 but their 28 points was not nearly enough with a defense that wasn’t good. Mustangs quarterback Matt Davis threw for over 2,200 yards and ran for over 1,000 to give the team a dual threat under center. SMU will likely keep things on the ground with Breeden West and Xavier Jones giving the team three decent options running the ball. Courtland Sutton gives Southern Methodist a potential 1,000 yard receiver but after him this could be a receiver by committee passing attack. The ground game could be a bit sturdier with the Mustangs getting back seven players with starting experience.

Alabama transfer Alec Morris takes over under center for UNT but his receiving options with Tee Goree, Turner Smiley (suspended for opener) and Thaddeous Thompson forming the nucleus of the receiving corps. The good news for the Mean Green is the return of running backs Jeffery Wilson and Willy Ivery with three starters back on the O-Line.
The over is 7-1 in Mustangs last 8 games in September and is 6-1 in Mustangs last 7 non-conference games while SMU are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games on fieldturf. The over is 7-1 in Mean Green last 8 games in September and the under is 5-1 in Mean Green last 6 games overall while the Mean Green are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. I think SMU is improved enough to cover…
