The UTEP Miners welcome the New Mexico State Aggies to Sun Bowl Stadium on opening day.
The New Mexico State Aggies look on paper to be a competitive scoring team although the defense has to get some stops. Aggies quarterback Tyler Rogers broke his thumb in the 4th game of the season so a full season should be fruitful with top targets Gregory Hogan and Tyrian Taylor returning. The NMSU rushing attack is what fuels this team and 1,650+ yard runner Larry Rose has an opportunity to surpass those 2015 numbers while Xavier Hall and Royce Cameron will help out with the workload. New Mexico State has a large offensive line and size is always a nice commodity especially for an offense that relies on the run so much.

The Texas El Paso Miners and head coach Sean Kugler are hoping the injury bug stays away in 2016 and most of the starters stay on the field. UTEP appears to be favoring running quarterback Ryan Metz who has to be hoping the foot injury to running back Aaron Jones is nothing but a distant memory because he is the key to the rushing attack especially with an experienced offensive line in front of him. Of the course the Miners need something from their passing attack and Jaquan White, Warren Redix, Tyler Batson and tight end Hayden Plinke give Metz options if he can take advantage especially with opposing defenses wary of the run.
The over is 6-0 in Aggies last 6 games on turf and is 6-0 in Aggies last 6 versus the CUSA while the Aggies are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 versus the CUSA. The under is 6-0 in Miners last 6 games overall and is 8-0 in Miners last 8 games on turf while the Miners are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 versus the S-Belt. The over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings and the Aggies are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 meetings while the road team is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings. I prefer the over here but if Larry Rose III is out, we miss a lot…
