The Maryland Terrapins head to the Sunshine State to face the Florida International Golden Panthers.
The Maryland Terrapins opened their season with an east 52-13 victory versus visiting Howard as a 50 point favorite. The Terrapins put this away at the half with a 35-0 lead as the Terps amassed 519 yards, scored on a blocked punt and held the Bison to 269 yards and 15 first downs. MD dominated the trenches with six players rushing for 40 or more yards with a team average of 7.4 yards per touch. Perry Hills was efficient in the air for the Terrapins as he went 14-19 for 126 yards before having a seat. DeAndre Lane was the Terps receiver of choice with five receptions for 73 yards as the offense generally stayed on the ground to use their size and strength.

The Florida International Golden Panthers were given a puncher’s chance of pulling the upset of visiting Indiana on opening day but were done in by a 22-0 Hoosiers 4th quarter run in a 34-13 defeat. Indiana held a 486-331 yardage edge and recorded a safety and a pair of pick six’s. The Golden Panthers were unable to run the ball and became one dimensional as they needed more then 63 rushing yards to take some of the pressure off the passing attack. FIU quarterback Alex McGough connected on 23-46 for 263 yards with no touchdowns and three costly interceptions. Stantley Thomas led the Golden Panthers with three catches for 91 yards with Jonnu Smith hauling in eight balls for 83 yards but mistakes were too much to overcome.
Florida International were their own worse enemy against the Hoosiers with Indiana scoring 16 non offensive points. The key for the Golden Panthers would to get something going on the ground and not be a pass only team which might be easier said then done. The Terrapins could have scored even more against Howard but to their credit they called off the Wolves even though we learned nothing from the Terps in that mismatch.
