Syracuse Orange vs. Louisville Cardinals - 9/9/16 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Louisville Cardinals (1-0) at Syracuse Orange (1-0)

College Football: Friday, September 9, 2016 at 8:00 pm (Carrier Dome)

The Line: Syracuse Orange +13 -- Over/Under: 61 See the Latest Odds

Coming up on Friday, September 9 in Week 2 ACC college football action, the Louisville Cardinals will travel to the Carrier Dome to visit the Syracuse Orange.

The Cardinals posted a video-game-style blowout victory in their opening game against Charlotte, blowing out the visitors by a jaw-dropping 70-14 final. Lamar Jackson hit 16 different Cardinals receivers for a half-dozen passing scores, and even hauled in a pair of rushing touchdowns himself. That gave Jackson a school-record eight touchdowns on the day and accounted for a whopping 405 offensive yards in the first half alone. In all, Jackson completed 17-of-23 passes for 286 yards and rushed 11 times for 119 yards, the highlight being a 36-yard touchdown scamper on the opening drive. Jackson’s efforts helped the Cardinals out-gain Charlotte 663-208 on offense. Louisville’s stable of running backs also got in on the action, with Jeremy Smith bagging a 24-yard score, Brandon Radcliffe catching one for a 16-yard TD and L.J. Scott getting one from 20 yards out.

Though not quite as unbelievably impressive as Louisville’s win, Syracuse also secured a 33-7 victory in Week 1 against Colgate. The Orange gained a whopping 554 yards on 81 plays, but head coach Dino Babers still called the offense “slow” in his postgame news conference. QB Eric Dungey secured 13 straight completions to open up the game, and ended up a stellar 34-for-40 on the day. Dungy collected 355 yards in that game, ninth-highest in school history. The main benefactors to the passing attack were Ervin Phillips, who caught a school-record 14 balls, and Amba Etta-Tawo, who grabbed a dozen passes for 210 yards—the fifth-highest in Orange history.

Louisville is 4-1 ATS in their last five September games, and 27-11 ATS in their last 38 road games. The Cardinals are also 1-4 ATS in their last five Friday games, and 1-5 ATS in their last six conference games.

Meanwhile, the Orange are 5-0 ATS in their last five home games, and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall. Syracuse is also 5-1 ATS in their last six games on field turf and 4-1 ATS in their last five games in September.

The Cardinals looked simply ridiculous in their opening-week game. This will feature a higher grade of competition, of course, but I can’t look past that well-tuned Louisville offense. I’ll take the Cardinals to cover here.
