The Auburn Tigers and the Arkansas State Red Wolves face off on Saturday in week 2 college football action.
The Auburn Tigers fought the good fight on Saturday against number 2 Clemson but in the end they came up short and took a six-point loss. The Auburn offense gained 262 yards while throwing two interceptions and fumbling once. At QB for the Tigers Sean White saw the bulk of the action but he completed just 47.6 percent of his passes for 140 yards. Tigers running back Kerryon Johnson had a career best 99 yards rushing while Marcus Davis had 5 catches and Will Hastings had 3. Defensively Auburn allowed 399 yards against one of the better offenses in the country also grabbing an interception and recovering a fumble. Nick Ruffin led the Tigers defense with 10 tackles, Tray Matthews had 9 tackles, and Carlton Davis was among those with 6 tackles. Auburn’s loss was tough as they haven’t beaten a top opponent in a while but it did show that the team does have a lot of heart and talent.

The Arkansas State Red Wolves look to regroup after a week 1 beat down at the hands of Toledo. The Arkansas State offense managed just 10 points and 266 yards of offense for the game. ASU QB Chad Voytik completed just 45.8 percent of his passes for 124 yards and he ran for 38 yards as he looked very much like a first time starter. Warren Wand was the Red Wolves leading rusher with 77 yards while Christian Booker and Cam Echols-Luper were the top receivers with 3 catches each. Defensively Arkansas State allowed 556 yards and 31 points but did recover 2 fumbles. Xavier Woodson-Luster led ASU with 14 tackles, Justin Clifton had 11 tackles as did Quanterio Heath. This clearly looks like a rebuilding year for an Arkansas State team that has been a regular bowl team the past several years.
Auburn is 6-2 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 non-conference games, and 3-7 against the spread following a loss. Arkansas State is 4-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games, and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven non-conference games.
This looks like a down year for Arkansas State and while I am not sold on Auburn, they are an improved team over last season and they win easily here.
