The Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners will travel to Hughes Stadium (CO) to take on the Colorado State Rams this Saturday afternoon in College Football action.

The Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners used a solid effort on both sides of the ball to win their opening game of 2016 by a 26-13 margin over the FCS Alabama State Hornets. Texas-San Antonio easily outgained Alabama State by a 449-287 margin and forced the Hornets into committing 4 turnovers in the victory. Offensively, Texas-San Antonio was led by QB Dalton Sturm who completed 20 of 25 passes for 274 yards, 2 TD’s, and an INT while also gaining 52 rushing yards and a TD on 3 carries. RB Jalen Rhodes had 78 yards and a TD on 16 carries. Shaq Williams (3 rec, 63 yds) and Marquez McNair (3 rec, 49 yds, TD) led the Roadrunners receiving group which had a total of 5 receivers that had over 40 yards. Defensively, Texas-San Antonio really struggled last season on the defensive side as they ranked 101st in scoring defense (33.8 ppg) and 100th in total yards allowed (444.1 yds/game) however, is more experienced this season and looked solid in their opener. Texas-San Antonio held Alabama State to just 142 passing yards and allowed the Hornets to be just 2-14 in 3rd down efficiency. Leading the way for the Roadrunners defensive was LB Alvin Jones (12 tackles) and DB Devin Cockrell (6 tackles).

Colorado State vs. UTSA - 9/10/16 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Colorado State Rams really struggled against their in-state rivals, the Colorado Buffaloes, and dropped their season opener after a blowout 44-7 loss. Colorado State was outplayed in all aspects of the game and in the end was outgained by the Buffaloes by a 578-225 margin. The Rams committed 4 turnovers in the loss and was only able to gain 12 first-downs in the entire game. Offensively, Colorado State came into the game with question marks at the QB position, and the starter, Nick Stevens, really struggled as he completed just 6 of 20 passes for 31 yards and 2 INT. QB Faton Bauta performed well in relief of Stevens as he completed 6 of 9 passes for 32 yards and a TD. RB Dalyn Dawkins was really the only bright spot of the Colorado State offense as he finished the game with 88 yards on 14 carries. WR Michael Gallup led the Rams receivers with 4 receptions for 38 yards. Defensively, Colorado State lost a lot of experience on the defensive line and secondary and really struggled against the Buffaloes offensive as they allowed 318 passing yards and 260 rushing yards. Leading the way for the Rams defense was LB Kevin Davis who had a remarkable 19 tackles and DB Jake Schlager who had 11 tackles.

The Roadrunners are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win however, just 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Rams are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a winning road record however, just 1-7-1 ATS in their last 9 games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game.

Texas-San Antonio has only won 7 games over the past two years however, could get back to a bowl game this season behind an offensive that should be much improved. Colorado State will be looking to rebound after their sluggish start but will need to figure out their QB as currently, head coach Mike Bobo has only said he will “readdress” his QB situation for Week 2. Colorado State will mostly likely feed their best player, RB Dalyn Dawkins, plenty in this one which could cause the Road Runners some trouble, however, as both these teams seem to be headed in different directions and for the fact the Road Runners lost a close 33-31 battle at home last year, I think Texas-San Antonio will be able to cover this one with the points.
