The Mercer Bears and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets meet Saturday afternoon at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
The Mercer Bears look for a bounce back performance after losing a heartbreaker to The Citadel. John Russ is completing 60 percent of his passes for 172 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception. Russ must be aggressive in this game if Mercer is going to hang around. Marquise Irvin and Avery Ward have combined for 151 receiving yards on 11 catches while Sam Walker has one reception. The Mercer Bears ground game is averaging 220 yards per contest, and Payton Usher leads the way with 89 yards on 10 carries. Defensively, Mercer is allowing 24 points and 341 yards per game. Tyler Ward leads the Bears with nine tackles, Lemarkus Bailey has one tackle for loss and Tosin Aguebor has one quarterback hit.

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets look for a quick 2-0 start after beating Boston College in Ireland. Justin Thomas is completing 53.3 percent of his passes for 119 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. Thomas has one touchdown pass in his last three games. Qua Searcy and Ricky Jeune have combined for 105 receiving yards on six catches while Brad Stewart has two receptions. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets ground game is averaging 119 yards per contest, and Dedrick Mills leads the way with 68 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Georgia Tech is allowing 14 points and 320 yards per game. P.J. Davis leads the Yellow Jackets with 10 tackles, Antonio Simmons has one sack and Corey Griffin has one interception.
Even with a couple of running backs suspended for Georgia Tech and the long trip back to Georgia, the Yellow Jackets should be able to run all over Mercer, a team that doesn't see this style of offense often. The Bears are also good for a score or two with the talent they have on the outside.
I expect some points to be scored here, which is why I'm siding with the over.
