Virginia Tech Hokies (1-0) at Tennessee Volunteers (1-0)

College Football: Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 8:00 pm (Bristol Motor Speedway)

The Line: Tennessee Volunteers -10.5 -- Over/Under: 52 See the Latest Odds

The Tennessee Volunteers and the Virginia Tech Hokies face off on Saturday in week 2 college football action in a game played at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The Tennessee Volunteers squeaked out a win in week 1 but it only showed they have plenty of work to do this season. The Tennessee offense netted just 319 yards while losing a fumble and throwing and interception. Vols QB Joshua Dobbs completed 55.2 percent of his passes for 192 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Jalen Hurd anchored the Tennessee rushing attack with 112 yards and a touchdown scored on a fumble recovery and Preston Williams was the top receiver with 5 catches and Ethan Wolf had 4. Defensively Tennessee allowed 292 yards while grabbing an interception but they looked weak up the middle again the run. Cortez McDowell and Darrin Kirkland Jr. led the Volunteers defense with 9 tackles each and Micah Abernathy had 8 tackles. The expectations are big for Tennessee this season but they are going to need to be a lot better than what we saw in week 1 if they are going to even come close to fulfilling them.

Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech - 9/10/16 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Virginia Tech Hokies opened the post Frank Beamer era with a win but it came against an FCS opponent, Liberty. The VT offense gained 458 yards and and scored 36 points but they looked sloppy fumbling 5 times and losing 4 of them. Hokies QB Jerod Evans completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 221 yards and 4 touchdowns and he rushed for 57 yards. Travon McMillan was the top rushing option for Virginia Tech carrying the ball 13 times for 42 yards with 3 touchdowns and Isaiah Ford was the top receiver with 11 catches, Cam Phillips had 5 catches, and Bucky Hodges had 3 catches. Even though Beamer is gone Bud Foster is still coaching the VT defense and they allowed 160 yards, 13 points and had a fumble recovery and a sack. Chuck Clark Clark and Andrew Motuapuaka led the Virginia Tech defense with 7 tackles each and Baron Woody and Terrell Edmunds each had 5. Head coach Justin Fuente’s Memphis teams always could move the football and with Foster’s defense they can be a tough combination.

Tennessee is 0-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 4-0 against the spread in their last four neutral site games, and 1-4 against the spread against the SEC. Virginia Tech is 2-6-1 against the spread in their last nine neutral site games, 1-4 against the spread against the SEC, and 7-17-2 against the spread in their last 26 non-conference games.

The total in this one is way out of hand as points are going to be tough to come by so the under is an easy play here.
