The Army Black Knights will travel to the Sun Bowl to take on the UTEP Miners this Saturday night in College Football action.

The Army Black Knights improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating the Rice Owls, 31-14, this past Saturday. Army was outstanding on the defensive end in the victory as they outgained Rice by a 414-289 margin and held the Owls to just 1 for 10 on third downs. Army and their triple-option run offensive controlled the ball for majority of the game as they had possession for over 40 minutes in the victory. Leading the way for the Black Knights was RB Andy Davidson who had 3 TD’s and 107 yards on 23 carries. On the season, Army is averaging 29.5 ppg on 379.0 total yards per game (40.5 passing, 338.5 rushing). QB Ahmad Bradshaw has attempted just 9 passes on the season but has down some decent damage with his legs as he has a TD and averages 16.5 carries/game and 60.5 yds/game. Leading the triple-option attack has been RB Andy Davidson (22.5 att/game, 114.0 yds/game, 5 TD), RB Jordan Asberry (6.0 att/game, 40.50 yds/game), and RB Darnell Woolfolk (10.5 att/game, 36.0 yds/game, 1 TD). WR Edgar Poe is the biggest threat at receiver positions for the Black Knights and has 3 catches for 57 yards on the season. Defensively, Army is holding their opponents to an average 13.5 ppg on 270.0 yards per game (182.5 passing, 87.5 rushing). Army has already forced 5 turnovers on the season and has been led by LB Jeremy Timph (14 tackles, 1 INT).

UTEP vs. Army - 9/17/16 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The UTEP Miners dropped to 1-1 (0-0 C-USA) on the season after being defeated by the 11th ranked Texas Longhorns, 41-7, this past Saturday. UTEP kept in close in the 1st half as they were down only by a 20-7 margin at halftime but allowed the Longhorns to score 21 unanswered points in the 2nd half in the loss. UTEP couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end against Texas as they were outgained by the Longhorns by a 416-208 margin and completed just 3 of 17 3rddown attempts. Leading the way for UTEP was RB Aaron Jones who 123 yards and a TD on 18 carries. On the season, UTEP is averaging 22.5 ppg on 363.0 yards per game (151.0 passing, 212.0 rushing) RB Aaron Jones is the main threat on offense as on the season he has 3 TD’s and is averaging 186.0 yds/game on 24.5 att/game. UTEP has used three QB’s already in the young season with Zack Greenlee leading the way with 3 TD’s and averaging 229.0 passing yds/game. WR Cole Freytag has been the most productive receiver for the Miners as he comes into the match with 6 receptions for 107 yards and a TD. Defensively, UTEP is allowing their opponents to average 31.5 ppg on 380.5 yards per game (225.5 passing, 155.0 rushing). UTEP has a turnover margin of -1 and has been led by LB Alvin Jones (20 tackles).

The Black Knights are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a ATS win. The Miners are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up loss and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games.

Army looks poised to have an outstanding season as the Black Knights have been impressive on both sides of the ball in their opening matchups against Temple and Rice. UTEP has an outstanding offensive line and solid RB in Aaron Jones however, their passing attack certainly needs to improve as the season continues. The line has yet to be posted for this matchup but unless Army is favored by double-digits, I’m leaning towards the Black Knights in this one. Please check back when the line is posted.
