The Kent State Golden Flashes are off to a 1-2 start after getting their first win of the season last week against Monmouth. Kent State appears to be reeling despite the win after they fell to Penn State and North Carolina A&T in their first two games. The Kent State offense is averaging 25.3 points and 299 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 6 times. KSU QB Mylik Mitchell has completed 59.7 percent of his passes with 5 touchdowns and an interception. Justin Rankin leads the Golden Flashes in rushing with 178 yards and a touchdown and Nick Holley is the top receiver with 12 catches and two touchdowns. Defensively Kent State is allowing 26.3 points and 320 yards per game with three interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and 9 sacks. Nate Holley is the Golden Flashes top tackler with 47, Terence Waugh has 26 tackles including 5 sacks, and Juantez McRae has 15 tackles. Kent State in big trouble here after having a lot of difficulty against far less than they face here.
Alabama is 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 home games, 4-1 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, and 0-4 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Kent State is 11-23 against the spread in their last 34 non-conference games, 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 games, and 1-4 against the spread against the SEC.
The Tide generally don’t fare well against the spread in games like this but Kent State is really horrible and I can see Alabama covering the big number here.
