The 3rd ranked Louisville Cardinals will travel to Joan C. Edwards Stadium to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd this Saturday night in College Football action.

The 3rd ranked Louisville Cardinals had the best win of the weekend as they dismantled the 2nd ranked Florida State Seminoles, 63-20, to improve to 3-0 (2-0 ACC) on the season. Louisville jumped all over Florida State in this one as they held a 35-10 lead at halftime and 49-10 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. Louisville was outstanding on both sides of the ball as they outgained Florida State by a 530-284 margin and won the turnover battle by a 2-1 margin. Leading the way for Louisville was QB Lamar Jackson who had 362 combined yards (216 passing, 146 rushing) and 4 TD’s. On the season, Louisville is averaging 65.0 ppg on 679.3 total yards per game (346.0 passing, 333.3 rushing). QB Lamar Jackson, who is the clear-cut favorite for the Heisman Trophy so far, has put up video-game numbers so far this season as through the air, he has 913 yards, 8 TD’s, and 2 INT and on the ground he has 464 yards and 10 TD’s. What makes Lamar’s Jacksons number more incredible was the Florida State game was the 1st time he has played in the 2nd half this season. Jackson’s main threats at WR have been James Quick (4.0 rec/game, 87.3 yds/game, 2 TD), Jamari Staples (3.0 rec/game, 73.0 yds/game), and Jaylen Smith (2.0 rec/game, 48.7 yds/game, TD). RB Brandon Radcliff has been a great compliment to Lamar Jackson in the Louisville backfield and has 2 TD’s on the season while averaging 98.7 yds/game. Defensively, Louisville is holding their opponents to an average of 20.7 ppg on 302.0 yds/game (188.7 passing, 113.3 rushing).

Marshall vs. Louisville - 9/24/16 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Marshall Thundering Herd fell to 1-1 (0-0 C-USA) on the season after falling to the Akron Zips, 65-38, this past Saturday. Marshall jumped out to a quick 21-7 lead at the end of the 1st quarter but allowed Akron to score 34 unanswered points in the 2nd quarter and couldn’t come back from the 41-21 halftime deficit. Marshall outgained Akron by a 560-524 margin however, committed 4 turnovers in the loss in which three of the turnovers resulted in Akron TD’s. Leading the way for Marshall was QB Chase Litton who threw for 413 yards and 4 TD’s but also had 3 INT. On the season, Marshall is averaging 50.0 ppg on 545.0 total yards per game (379.5 passing, 165.5 rushing). Leading the way for the Thundering Herd offensive has been QB Chase Litton as he has completed 61.6% of his passes for 10 TD and 3 INT while averaging 361.0 yds/game. The Thundering Herd have 4 receivers who are averaging over 50 yds/game and which are led by Josh Knight (4.0 rec/game, 71.0 yds/game, 2 TD), Ryan Yurachek (3.0 rec/game, 61.5 yds/game, TD), and Michael Clark (3.0 rec/game, 52.0 yds/game, 3 TD). The Marshall backfield is led by the duo of Keion Davis (12.0 att/game, 55.5 yds/game, TD) and Hyleck Foster (12.5 att/game, 54.0 yds/game). Defensively, Marshall is allowing their opponents to average 32.5 ppg on 373.0 total yards per game (277.0 passing, 96.0 rushing).

The Cardinals are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Thundering Herd are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss and 14-5 ATS in their last 19 non-conference games.

Although it’s still early in the season, it certainly seems that the Cardinals have the best player in College Football in QB Lamar Jackson and arguably the best team in football as Louisville is very talented on both sides of the ball. Marshall has to be disappointed with their performance at home last week against Akron and has to be worried about how their defense (which ranked 10th in scoring defense in 2015) played against the Zips. Marshall is a solid team but probably not as good as what we’ve seen over the past few years and as Louisville seems unstoppable at the moment, I’m going trust the Lamar Jackson and Louisville keep on rolling and take them to cover this large road spread. Take Louisville to cover.
