Baylor Bears vs. Iowa State Cyclones - 10/1/16 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Baylor Bears (4-0) at Iowa State Cyclones (1-3)

College Football: Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 12:00 pm (Jack Trice Stadium)

The Line: Iowa State Cyclones +17 -- Over/Under: 59 See the Latest Odds

Over at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames on Saturday, October 1, the Baylor Bears and the Iowa State Cyclones will be meeting up in Week 5 college football action.

Baylor enters this game with a perfect 4-0 record, and they’ve been impressive in those wins. The Bears’ most recent victory came this past Saturday against Oklahoma State 35-24. Baylor QB Seth Russell was great in that game, tossing four touchdown passes to go with an 18-for-28 mark and 387 yards. The Bears’ leading receivers on Saturday were Ishmael Zamora (eight receptions; 175 yards; two TD) and Chris Platt (three receptions; 114 yards; two TD). Russell also led Baylor in rushing, posting 10 carries for 65 yards.

So far this season for the Bears, Russell has managed an 80-for-133 line for 1148 yards and 13 touchdowns with four interceptions. Terence Williams heads up the Baylor charge on the ground with his 55 carries, 284 yards and four TDs. KD Cannon is the Bears’ big receiving weapon with 27 grabs for 370 yards and four scores.

Over on the Iowa State side, they’re coming in with a flimsy 1-3 record, but did record their first victory of the year this past Saturday against San Jose State. The Cyclones wrecked SJSU 44-10 in that game, with Joel Lanning and Jacob Park (the pair of rotating quarterbacks) leading the way. Lanning posted 5-of-8 passing for 136 yards and two touchdowns, while Park logged 165 yards and three touchdowns in the Iowa State victory. RB Mike Warren also helped out on the ground for the Cyclones, tallying 19 carries for 103 yards and a TD.

On the year so far for Iowa State, Lanning is leading the way in passing with a 43-of-77 mark for 605 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. Warren has been a steady runner for the Cyclones on 61 carries, 256 yards and one touchdown. Allen Lazard is the high man so far in the Iowa State receiving game with his 18 catches for 295 yards and two TDs.

Baylor is 17-8-1 ATS in their last 26 games following an ATS win, and 2-5 ATS in their last seven conference games. Baylor is also 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall, and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games following a straight-up win.

As for Iowa State, they’re 5-2 ATS in their last seven conference games, and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games in October. Iowa State is also 6-17-3 ATS versus a team with a winning record, and 1-5-2 ATS in their last eight home games versus a team with a winning road record.

The line in this game is pretty thick, but not thick enough to scare most people off. Baylor has scored at least 35 points in each of their first four games, and the touchdowns will certainly be flying in this one. Conversely, Iowa State was wrecked in two of their three losses, and was outscored in those games 108-43. The Cyclones simply don’t have the offensive firepower to keep up here, and things will likely get out of hand quickly. I’m predicting a runaway Baylor victory and an easy cover.
