Over at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday, October 8, the Army Black Knights will be facing off against the Duke Blue Devils in Week 6 college football action.

Army comes into this game at a solid 3-1, but suffered their first defeat of the year in their last appearance against Buffalo. In that game, Army was outscored 14-0 in the fourth quarter to send it to overtime, and the Bulls nailed the game-winning field goal in the extra period. Black Knights QB Ahmad Bradshaw didn't have to throw much, finishing 3-of-8 for 36 yards, but his big contribution was on the ground with 22 carries for 126 yards and a TD.

So far on Army’s season, Bradshaw is 10-of-21 for 166 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Andy Davidson leads the Black Knights in rushing with 80 carries for 414 yards and six touchdowns, while Edgar Poe has pulled in three passes for 57 yards on the year.

Over on the Blue Devils’ side, they’re sitting at 2-3, thanks to a 34-20 defeat at the hands of Virginia this past Saturday. Duke’s proverbial coffin nail in that game was their six turnovers and near-nonexistent pass defense. Blue Devils QB Daniel Jones would have had a good statistical day if not for five interceptions, as he went 33-of-54 for 324 yards and a TD. Shaun Wilson led Duke on the ground with 16 carries but only got 55 yards, and Quay Chambers was the high man in the receiving game with five grabs for 90 yards.

Jones has given the Blue Devils a 125-of-197 line this year for 1414 yards and a 6:8 TD:INT ratio, while Jela Duncan leads the way on the ground with 56 carries for 314 yards and four touchdowns. Anthony Nash is Duke’s leading receiver this year on 27 catches, 382 yards and two touchdowns.

Army is 5-1 ATS in their last six games on grass, and 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games. Army is also 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall, and 1-4 ATS in their last five versus the ACC.

As for the Blue Devils, they’re 0-5 ATS versus a team with a winning record, and 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games. The Blue Devils are also 4-0 ATS in their last four versus independents, and 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 non-conference games.

Army is the dictionary definition of a one-sided offense, as they’re built to run—and usually do it well. Duke, meanwhile, does boast a handful of star players but is prone to mistakes and allows big plays at inopportune times. If the Blue Devils can get their key guys involved in this game early and sit on the lead, they’ve got a great chance at winning this game and covering the spread. I’ll take Duke, but it’s a pick stuffed with contingencies.
