The Houston Cougars travel to Annapolis to face the option of the Navy Midshipmen.
The Houston Cougars have been impressive on both sides of the ball in building a 5-0 record but I have to say the schedule has been soft outside of facing Oklahoma on opening day. The Cougars crushed visiting Connecticut 42-14 as a four touchdown favorite as they led 28-7 at the half and went in to cruise control. UH held a 540-335 yardage edge behind a deadly efficient and explosive passing attack. Cougars quarterback Greg Ward Jr. completed 32-38 for 389 yards and three touchdowns with top target Linell Bonner snaring 12 passes for 159 yards and a score while Steven Dunbar and Chance Allen combined for 182 yards on 12 catches. Ward also led the Cougars on the ground with 65 yards and a pair of TD’s on 12 touches.

I see and read that the Navy Midshipmen are not as good as they have been in the past but when a record setting quarterback graduates I think it takes time to rebound from such a loss. The Midshipmen dropped a 28-14 decision at Air Force in week five as a touchdown underdog with no ground game to speak of. The Middies totaled less then 90 yards and averaged 1 ½ yards per carry which made them a passing team. Surprisingly Navy was reasonably effective in the air with quarterback Will Worth connecting on 17-30 for 260 yards although a pair of interceptions neutralized a productive effort otherwise. Jamir Tillman led the Midshipmen with nine catches for 128 yards but the team struggled to move the ball until the 4th quarter.
Houston are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 conference games and Houston are 4-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record while Houston are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The over is 4-0 in Navy’s last 4 home games and Navy are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game while Navy are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game.
I believe Navy is going to have problems keeping up on the scoreboard with Houston who has the firepower to to simply outscore the Middies…
