TV: ABC

Headed our way from Memorial Stadium on Saturday, November 12 in Week 11 college football activity in the ACC, the Pittsburgh Panthers will travel to meet the Clemson Tigers.

Pittsburgh enters this game with a 5-4 record on the year, losing their most recent game against Miami 51-28 this past weekend. In that game, Pittsburgh QB Nathan Peterman went 17-of-35 for 287 yards and two touchdowns, while RB James Conner led a meandering rush attack on 12 carries for 40 yards and one TD. Jester Weah posted three catches for 115 yards and a score to lead the Panthers in receiving.

So far this year, Peterman is 130-of-215 for 1806 yards and 14 touchdowns, while Conner leads the Pittsburgh rushing attack with 155 carries for 712 yards and 11 touchdowns. Weah is tops in the Panthers’ receiving game this year on 26 catches for 563 yards and six scores.

Over on the Clemson side, they continue to roll along with a pristine 9-0 record. The Tigers’ most recent victory came this past Saturday against Syracuse with a 54-0 blowout. In that one, Clemson QB Deshaun Watson went 13-of-16 for 169 yards and two touchdowns, but left after the first half with a bruised shoulder (he should be fine for this upcoming game). Wayne Gallman led the way for the Tigers on the ground with 10 carries for 63 yards and a TD, while Deon Cain was the lead receiver with five catches for 125 yards and two scores.

On the season thus far for Clemson, Watson is 204-of-317 for 2497 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while Gallman is tops in the rushing game on 120 carries for 634 yards and eight scores. Mike Williams is the Tigers’ lead receiver with 52 grabs for 754 yards and five touchdowns this year.

Pittsburgh is 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 road games versus a team with a winning home record, and 27-13-1 ATS in their last 41 games following a straight-up loss. Pittsburgh is also 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall, and 1-5 ATS in their last six games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.

Meanwhile, Clemson is 4-0 ATS in their last four games at home versus a team with a winning home record, and 5-1 ATS in their last six games following an ATS win. Clemson is also 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games, and 5-2 ATS in their last seven conference games.

I initially thought the Tigers might falter a little bit in scoring, but after that 54-point drubbing last weekend I’m back on the bandwagon despite Clemson winning by seven points or fewer in three of their last five. Pittsburgh—and just about every other team out there—simply doesn’t have the firepower to keep up with Watson (bruised shoulder and all) and the gang. I’ll take Clemson to cover here and not look back.
