The Florida Gators and the South Carolina Gamecocks face off on Saturday in The Swamp in week 11 SEC college football action.
The Florida Gators are 6-2 this season but they are coming off of a tough one-sided loss at Arkansas. The Florida offense was ineffective last week and for the season they are averaging 27 points and 378.9 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 12 times. Gators QB Luke Del Rio isn’t superstar quality and he has completed 56.7 percent of his passes with 8 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Jordan Scarlett is UF’s top rusher with 483 yards and 6 touchdowns and Antonio Callaway is the leading receiver with 31 catches and 2 touchdowns and DeAndre Goolsby has 28 catches. Florida leans on their defense and they have allowed 14.1 points and 268.1 yards per game with 11 interceptions, 3 fumble recoveries and 22 sacks. Jarrad Davis is Florida’s top tackler with 56 tackles, Alex Anzalone has 53 tackles, and Jabari Zuniga has 5 sacks. The Gators still have a very good shot to make the SEC Title Game.

The South Carolina Gamecocks are an improving team and they are 5-4 and winners of their last 5 games in a row. The South Carolina offense hasn’t been anything special but they are getting it done averaging 19.2 points and 330.6 yards per game and they have turned the ball over 11 times. South Carolina QB Brandon McIlwain has completed 52.3 percent of his passes with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Rico Dowdle is the Gamecocks leading rusher with 440 yards and 4 touchdowns and Hayden Hurst is the top receiver with 35 catches and Deebo Samuel has 33 receptions. The South Carolina defense is allowing 21.2 points and 391.7 yards per game with 12 interceptions, 8 fumble recoveries, and 17 sacks. South Carolina head Coach Will Muschamp didn’t have a happy farewell at Florida and he returns to The Swamp with a chance at revenge.
Florida is 8-3 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, 5-2 against the spread following a loss, and 2-6 against the spread in their last 8 home games. South Carolina is 4-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record and 1-4 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread.
Florida has the much better athletes, many of whom were recruited by Muschamp, but Del Rio has been crippling to the offense. I expect this game to be a lot closer than it should be or needs to be as it will be low scoring enough that the points factor.
