Down at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field in Blacksburg on Saturday, November 12 in Week 11 ACC college football action, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will be visiting the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Georgia Tech enters play this week with a 5-4 record so far, fresh off a 48-20 loss to North Carolina this past Saturday. In that game, Georgia Tech QB Justin Thomas went just 5-for-10 for 184 yards and a TD, and RB Dedrick Mills did most of the heavy lifting on offense with 19 carries for 132 yards and a scores. Clinton Lynch was the only Yellow Jacket with a TD, bagging it on an 83-yard catch for his lone reception.

On the season thus far, Thomas is 63-of-115 for 1208 yards and seven touchdowns, while Mills leads the Jackets with 114 carries, 578 yards and 10 touchdowns. Lynch is Georgia Tech’s lead receiver on 12 catches for 389 yards and five touchdowns.

As for Virginia Tech, they’re entering this game with a nice 7-2 record so far, thanks to a 24-21 win over Duke in their last outing. In that one, Virginia Tech QB Jerod Evans went 15-of-27 for 192 yards, and also led the team in rushing with 18 carries for 83 yards and a score. Isaiah Ford was the Hokies’ lead receiver with four catches for 62 yards.

So far this year, Evans is 156-of-253 for 2209 yards and 21 touchdowns, while also leading Virginia Tech in rushing with 114 carries for 533 yards and four scores. Ford is tops in the Hokies’ receiving game with his 50 receptions for 710 yards and six touchdowns.

Georgia Tech is 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a straight-up loss, and 4-13-1 ATS in their last 18 games overall. Georgia Tech is also 3-10 ATS versus a team with a winning record, and 1-5 ATS in their last six games following an ATS loss.

Meanwhile, Virginia Tech is 5-1 ATS in their last six home games versus a team with a winning road record, and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a straight-up win. Virginia Tech is also 1-4 ATS in their last five games after posting more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game, and the over is 4-0 in the Hokies’ last four home games.

Save for Mills, Georgia Tech is simply not threatening on offense. It’s something of a wonder that the Jackets have been able to put up at least 20 points in their last five straight games. As for Virginia Tech, they’re more forthright on offense, with at least 24 points in all but one game this year. The Yellow Jackets will have to put up a Mills-heavy, clock-control game in order to have a chance, but I still don’t think they’ll get close enough to cover.
