TV: NBC

We’ve got a fun Week 12 college football matchup coming on Saturday, November 19 from Notre Dame Stadium as the Virginia Tech Hokies visit the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Virginia Tech comes into this game with a 7-3 record so far this year, but the Hokies lost their last game against Georgia Tech 30-20 this past Saturday. In that one, Virginia Tech QB Jerod Evans managed 316 yards, a TD and two interceptions while also leading the team in rushing with 18 carries for 75 yards and two scores.

So far this season, Evans has 2525 yards with 22 touchdowns and four interceptions, and leads the Hokies in rushing on 132 carries for 608 yards and six touchdowns. The lead receiver for Virginia Tech this year is Isaiah Ford with 58 receptions for 795 yards and seven touchdowns.

Over on the Notre Dame side, they’re sitting on a 4-6 record this season, with their latest victory coming 44-6 over Army this past Saturday. In that game, Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer went 17-of-28 for 209 yards and three touchdowns, while Tarean Folston put up a team-high 84 rush yards and a TD on 13 carries.

On the year thus far, Kizer is 179-of-296 for 2470 yards, 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions for the Irish, while Josh Adams is the leading rusher on 128 carries for 653 yards and three touchdowns. Notre Dame’s leading receiver this year is Equanimeous St. Brown, with 45 receptions for 777 yards and eight touchdowns.

Virginia Tech is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight-up loss, and 6-15-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record. Virginia Tech is also 1-4 ATS in their last five road games, and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame is 4-0 ATS in their last four home games versus a team with a winning road record, and 2-5 ATS in their last seven non-conference games. Notre Dame is also 2-5 ATS in their last seven games on grass, and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games in November.

This actually seems like a pretty good matchup, despite the lopsided records (hence the small spread). Prior to their loss last week, Virginia Tech was on a nice run with at least 24 points in each of a three-game stretch (all wins). I think the Hokies can get back to that high-octane offense here, and I see a final score of around 30 points. I’ll take Virginia Tech to cover.
