The Sun Belt and Big 12 collide when the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks visit the Kansas Jayhawks.
Louisiana-Monroe hasn't exactly been a household name in Sun Belt basketball mainly because the losses have far out numbered the wins. The Warhawks begin the 2013-14 campaign with the goal of avoiding the conference cellar for the fourth consecutive year. The struggles can be traced back to ULM having struggles putting the ball in the basket and keeping opponents from doing the same. The Warhawks will try to change their fortunes with the addition of five JC transfers mixed in with returning starters. Amos Olatayo will be counted on to carry the scoring load after averaging nearly 16 points last season while guard Jayon James did a little bit of everything with 9 ppg, 5 apg and 6 rpg but was turnover prone.

Kansas looks like they are locked and loaded once again with another Big 12 championship in their sights with the National Championship in the bigger picture. Few would argue that Bill Self doesn't have yet another championship caliber squad with a fantastic recruiting class coming in. Freshmen Wayne Selden Jr, Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid are three of the top recruits in the country and are projected as starters so we have no track record on this trio in their first foray against players deemed to be on their same talent level. The Jayhawks youth is certainly an unknown but in my view if they couldn't play then they wouldn't be taking the floor in a KU uniform. That means we'll see plenty of defense and solid scoring from this team which has been the calling card of this team for Self in his ten years at the helm.
Kansas might be the creme of the crop in the Big 12 while Louisiana-Monroe will be looking to escape the basement in the Sun Belt. Hate the big chalk but the Jayhawks are the choice or walk away...
