The Long Beach State 49ers clash with the #13 Michigan Wolverines in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
Long Beach State might be 1-3 but the schedule has been very tough with losses to Arizona, Loyola Marymount and Kansas State. The 49ers are one of the favorites in the Big West and generally toughen themselves up with a difficult non conference slate. A 71-57 loss to Kansas State was decided by a poor first half where the 49ers trailed 39-22 and coming back from that far down against the Wildcats doesn't happen too often. Both teams shot in the low 40's but KSU controlled this one by forcing 18 giveaways and 18 personalls in top a 20-8 edge at the stripe. Dan Jennings paced the LBS attack with 14 points and 12 rebounds with AJ Spencer tossing in 13 while Mike Caffet chipped in nine points.

Michigan began their quest for a return to the National Championship with a pair no contests before getting surprised by Iowa State in a 77-70 decision. A back and forth first half and a 42 point second carried the Cyclones who are trying to get their name out on the national stage. The Wolverines were simply out shot with Iowas State hitting at 47.5% with Michigan countering with 42%. That was key but even bigger was the Cyclones 13-4 advantage at the charity stripe. Nik Stauskas poured in 20 points including four bombs while dishing out six helpers with Derrick Walton tossing in 13 followed by 12 point, seven rebound performance by Glenn Robinson III before he fouled out in 33 minutes.
I don't think there is any question which team is better and which wins but Long Beach State is a bit battle hardened and I'll back the points...
